The U.S. has become a near-military state: 17,000 checkpoints severely restrict interstate movement, Predator drones target innocent civilians without cause, and explosions rock cities daily. Matt and his stepbrother, Benjy, face deadly attacks from a corrupt government, ruthless local law enforcement, and bloodthirsty terrorist groups as they embark on their trek. With the world in shambles Matt's trip to save his girlfriend Raine is full of explosions, gun fights and a lot of secret help along the way.
I liked Matt right away and getting a look into the insanity he suffered at home and then a cryptic message from his father really pulled me into the story and had me hooked and rooting for him. I liked how his journey across the dangerous country brought him some answers and I can't wait to continue the series because with all the drama and answers there were also a lot more questions raised and I am excited to see the fight continue.
At first I was a little bothered by what I called the side stories, mostly because I just wanted to follow Matt on his journey but they all ended up being WAY more important than I could have ever realized and looking back at the story as a whole they made the story much more well rounded and I love how perfectly the author weaved them together in surprising ways.
I almost always enjoy a corrupt power to fight against and I do enjoy this struggle but what I love most is that there is not really just one bad guy htere are a bunch of evil groups in this world and soem are not always what they seem everything is so intense and teisted that the only thing I know for sure is that I am on Matt's side and rooting for him to discover the truth and maybe find some peace, but the action and espionage are so good that I'm enjoying the crazy ride and I can't wait to see who ends up on top.
And a member to a new, elite race of zombies.

Armed with a current address for his biological grandfather and a slightly unusual, yet loyal best friend, Doyle Hawthorne sets out to discover the truth about his past. But answers don't come easily, and the closer Doyle arrives to his destination, the more confusing things become. Disturbing alterations to his physical appearance as well as to his personality flicker on and off as Doyle searches for a logical explanation.

Despite the increasing severity of these uncontrolled flare-ups, Doyle is determined to keep his first date with Addy - a beautiful, young woman he has met upon his arrival into town. After narrowly subduing his raging impulses, Doyle quickly decides not even death itself can keep him from her. Unfortunately, he is about to test that theory.

Once initiated, nothing can alter the process of shading - the term given to the three distinct phases of becoming a higher classification of zombie, commonly referred to as "royals". Doyle must learn to control his tendency toward violence as well as his newfound royal powers if there is any chance of protecting those he loves from a mad scientist, the government, the colony of royals, and most importantly... himself.
A refuge abundantly full of every good thing. A sanctuary of hope. A place of wonder. A paradise where the Archer doesn't exist, and Fate can't reach her. Eden has a ton of secrets that I did not expect, it is not the utopia it was made out to be but the world is a crazy place and Kate does realize this eventually.
A war waged by men and their hateful weapons long ago made it so, and my people--the women of the Village--are the only survivors. This is what our history lessons teach us, and this is what we are to believe. But I am sixteen now ... and I question everything. The Archer has spoken, but I have no desire to heed his command. I long for more.

In a world demolished by war and ruled by the hands of Fate, individual choices have become obsolete. Essentially, there is only one requirement: Bow the knee to the wisdom of the Council without question. Many of the women in the Village have acquiesced to this mandate, including some of Kate's closest friends. But Kate longs for something more; she hears the call of another life. On the day of her sixteenth birthday celebration, the reality of what this means invades her with a vengeance, and she is forced to contend with her own moral conscience. Kate's destiny has always been the Pit--the life of the breeder--which she is expected to embrace without complaint. Her rebel's heart, however, refuses to comply with Fate's demand, and what she finds in the Pit draws her one step closer to finding the truth about herself and the Village. And it changes the course of her destiny for all eternity. Ages 14 and up.
I was just expecting another typical dystopian read which is not a bad thing I loved the genre and decided to read this book based a little on that (I also liked the summary) but I found this to be much more than just your average dystopian and I loved it.
I really loved the writing, it pulled me in right away and I found myself lost in the world because of the great but not over the top descriptions it was very beautiful and it made it very hard for me to put this book down.
Kate was great, a young girl ready for her life to be her own and sick of the Council and what they think her fate should be, I admired her determination to stand up for what she wanted and it usually came at a high cost but she stuck to her guns. I also really liked Ian but I found that he was a little rash when it came to Kate and I'm not sure I totally believed how strongly he felt for her but I'm definitely coming around and I am looking forward to watching them together.
Mona, The Council and the village was rather disturbing just when I thought it could not get any worse another layer of evil was revealed and I found myself shocked and cringing more than I thought I would but I also I was fascinated with the way things worked and how so many people can just accept this way of life even after all of the "disposing" of that was done. I loved watching Kate fight Mona it was so exciting but I did not see the ending coming it was not at all what I expected and it was also pretty great.

"...I feel free. So if you have not already guessed I have a giant crush on these four hotties, Maximus (Vampire), Braxton (Dragon Shifter), Tyson (Wizard), and Jacob (Fey) were fantastic and their relationship with Jessa was maybe a tiny bit cheesy at times but it was also beautiful and heart warming. Braxton is my favorite and I believe he is Jessa's as well, I loved how subtle the change in their friendship was but I know it will play a bigger role as the series continues at least I hope it does. Having the four brothers be different supernaturals was really neat it was a great way to introduce each one as an individual and also explain a lot about the rest of that group at the same time, in my opinion it was genius.
The ending was perfect it wrapped things up enough that I was not left hanging but it also left me with a lot of unanswered questions making me crazy excited for book 2 and beyond.
This book has it all action, corrupt councils, friendship, and lots of cool supernatural characters so pick it up today you wont regret it!!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14919273202642815085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1570194678667897079.post-71281521178895744232015-05-04T21:11:00.000-07:002015-05-04T21:11:06.401-07:00Read to Review- Fangs and Fur (The Life and Trials of Persephone Black Book 2)

But things are never normal at Monster Academy. When Seph’s friends hear rumors about a parallel world hidden beneath the school, Abernathy and Linda just have to go and investigate it. Nevermind the rumors about a creature that none have seen the likes of before that rules this world with an iron fist. When the girls are captured by said beast, the rest of the gang have to save them, and that is only the beginning. Finding an intellectual gnome, some hippie-era wizards, and maybe a 300-year-old fire-witch, the friends can and will save the girls, whatever the cost
I liked that this book had more of an external struggle, where book one had the characters fighting within their group and within themselves this one had a struggle against an evil that sort of brought them together and made them face some truths that may have otherwise been swept under the rug, it made things a little more action packed but there was also lots of character growth and discovery while each small group faced a different journey to reach the end. The new characters that they discovered in the alternate world were interesting and it will be cool to see how they fit in as things continue (I really hope there is a book 3) but my heart still belongs to the original six.
I feel in love with Rodney in book one but this time around he sort of bugged me and I do sort of understand that the whole magic sharing and blood drinking complicates things for him and Persephone but I thought he was better than that and I really hope he does a bit of growing up soon. I really enjoyed Persephone's journey she learned a lot about herself and under the circumstances I think she handled herself rather well and like I said before I really hope there is a book 3 cause I really want to know more about the world and about all these characters especially Persephone.
I highly recommend this series to fans of paranormal it is full of action and even more heart and in my opinion it is balanced very well and it had me engaged from the start and I am now a big fan.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14919273202642815085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1570194678667897079.post-43567328688261325212015-05-01T18:53:00.003-07:002015-05-01T18:53:43.948-07:00Read to Review- Blood and Beasts (The Life and Trials of Persephone Black book 1)

She was raised in a foster home. She had a half-brother and half-sister. She had a few best friends. Then she turns sixteen, and she makes out with her best friend, bites him, and nearly kills him. Becoming a vampire isn’t easy. Now, filled with an insatiable urge for blood, she finds herself shipped to Monster Academy, which is filled with the rest of the freaks of nature, like her. Befriending a couple of witches, a wizard, and a few werewolves, this vampire with an identity crisis finds out that she’s not the only one with problems. As much as she may think she is a monster, she learns that what you are on the inside is what makes you a monster or not. She finds herself immersed in a world of fairy colonies, backstabbing brethren, and teenage romance, but in this whole new world of hers, a blood-crazed monster like herself might be just what it needs.
The book starts and gets right to the point and I loved that, there is a lot of action and discovery in the first few chapters and it really drew me in, and the quick and easy pace kept me going, usually much longer than I should have, proving how fun it really is.
I very much enjoyed the large and loveable cast of characters but on the other hand it did take me a while to get some of them straight and to be honest there are still a few that still make me pause for a second to recall who they are but I guess that is to be expected when a boarding school of magical creatures is involved and their pasts are all very deeply explored giving you a ton of info. Speaking of the characters and their in depth pasts I really loved how so much of this book focused on their dark truths and how they all came together to heal. it was neat to see the union of vampires, werewolves, and witches and how they helped each other cope no matter their past or mistakes. My favorite part about this book was the freindships and how they grew with the characters.
I must confess that the fact that the focus was the issues these characters faced while trying to adjust to a new life of the magical world, the large threat that they faced at the end seemed rushed and sort of just thrown in there but it was also very action packed and it set up what I imagine will be a great sequel without being to cliff hanger like.
I really really liked this book and anyone who enjoys a good paranormal read with a lot of emotion then I would highly recommend this one for you.
I am excited for book two and I hope it is as full of action and friendship as this one was I will even enjoy a little more heartbreak just to spend some time in this worldAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14919273202642815085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1570194678667897079.post-72072343589445754112015-05-01T16:32:00.003-07:002015-05-01T16:32:43.492-07:00Book Review- Delirium (Delirium #1)

I wonder whether the procedure will hurt. I want to get it over with. It's hard to be patient. It's hard not to be afraid while I'm still uncured, though so far the deliria hasn't touched me yet. I found things did pick up at the end but not soon enough for my liking but also it did pick up enough that I am a little curious and I want to pick up the next book and see what happens, although I will admit I am not rushing out to get my hands on it.
I was not impressed by Lena she sort of annoyed me but I did like the romance she found and how it opened her eyes to a world of possibility. Lena's friend Hana I did enjoy she had a fun rebellious spirit that drew me to her and I would really like to read the novella about her more than the rest of the trilogy because I want to know more about her.
The idea of Love being a disease was interesting and it sure gave me some food for thought and it is definitely the thing that is keeping me interested in the series but as I read it is also part of the reason things were a little boring since a life without love seems extremely dull to me. I hope that things are a bit more light in the next book and I do want to find out where Lena goes from here. Overall this was not a terrible book but I had hoped for more and I think that my lesson here is to not expect to much from book 2 and maybe I can enjoy it a bit more.
I'm a huge sucker for a royal court and all the lies and espionage that goes along with it and this book delierved on all the drama I had hoped for, and to deliver that drama is an interesting court indeed, two princes both different and both untrustworthy in their own way, a cold and heartless queen with a deadly power determined to control everyone and everything, a hardcore king that I never really got a full read on, and most dramatic of all the members of the high houses fighting for wealth and power. The backstabbing and fight for survival was so exciting and my favorite thing, and the betrayals suffered were terrible but also oddly satisfying and I hope to witness some revenge soon and it also taught me an important ... "Anyone can betray anyone."
I hope this review is not just on big ramble I loved it so much I'm finding it hard to get my feelings out, I just had so many of them and it's hard to get them in order but onward we go anyway.
I touched a bit on the royal court, which is full of characters I loved to hate and even a few that I just loved but Mare, the girl who is different and a threat to the Silvers way of life was my favorite she had a strong will and right or wring she knows what she wants and what needs to be done, I really hope she uses the lessons she learned while staying at the palace to help her win, I am rooting for her and her band of warriors:
"We will rise, red as the dawn."
My biggest regret is that now I have to wait for the other books in the trilogy, but on the plus side I have time to reread this one before I get the others and get a great adventure once again.
I'm extremely glad I fed into the hype because it worked out really well for me, I was shocked, I cried and I sat on the edge of my seat in anticipation when things got dicey, it was a wonderful journey and I can't wait to spend more time in this magically twisted world full of greatness.

"Iam the king and you could've been my red queen, now you are nothing."
Gwen’s life has been a rollercoaster since she discovered she was the Ruby, the final member of the secret time-traveling Circle of Twelve. In between searching through history for the other time-travelers and asking for a bit of their blood (gross!), she’s been trying to figure out what all the mysteries and prophecies surrounding the Circle really mean.

Her best friend Lesley follows every lead diligently on the Internet. James the ghost teaches Gwen how to fit in at an eighteenth century party. And Xemerius, the gargoyle demon who has been following Gwen since he caught her kissing Gideon in a church, offers advice on everything. Oh, yes. And of course there is Gideon, the Diamond. One minute he’s very warm indeed; the next he’s freezing cold. Gwen’s not sure what’s going on there, but she’s pretty much destined to find out.

I really enjoy how complicated things have become and I'm interested to watch it all play out.
Gwen bothers me a bit, I understand Gideon is gorgeous but I feel like she wastes to much time on him when much mire important things are going on, she travels through time people are after her and other things I woukd like to think a boy would not be so distracting but I'm not 16 anymore so maybe I'm wrong. Gideon has also started to bither me a bit... what is he up too?
The writing style also took some getting used to but once I did I found a beauty to it that I rather enjoyed.
Most of the characters were wonderful but there is a lot of them in this crazy tale and some I could not care for, Morigan and Caenith were my favorite by far, with fate playing a part they form an unlikely but deep bond and I love when two people can find each other and help each other grow and learn about themselves like these two did.
As I read other reviews for this book I noticed some people were bothered by the graphic rape and torture in the story and yes I would agree this tale is not for the faint of heart but I disagree with it being a reason not to read this book (unless you are one of those faint of heart) because in a land as cruel and ruthless as the ones in this world built here I think its bound to happen, it is proof of the cruelty that must be faught and also some brutalities play a role in the unfolding of the tale.
I liked this book but I can't say I loved it and I have to admit there were times I had to push myself to continue or skim some of the drawn out description but overall I'm glad I read this and I may continue the series if I find the time So I can see how things continue.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14919273202642815085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1570194678667897079.post-62115287000937569532015-03-16T03:10:00.000-07:002015-03-16T03:10:07.635-07:00Book Review- Horde (Razorland #3)

Well this was a satisfying end to a satisfying series. I have really enjoyed this series and the things I believe it stsnds for, such as being true to yourself and fighting for what you love snd believe in. This world is made up of some really great characters, some not so great characters, and some forgettable ones but they all played their part. There was an extra bit of death in this conclusion but I expected that, it was war after all and some were troubling but one hit me harder than I had expected and was a lingering sore spot for some of our characters but all in all the ending was perfect deaths or not.
My favorite thing about this installment was the revelation of why it's called the Razorland series, it was perfect and I could not have asked for a better explanation. The freaks also evolved a lot and it was interesting to get more info on them and hoe they learn and I know believe they are NOTzombies but I still really liked the idea of them maybe more than zombies.
This being book three and an epic ending I won't say more as not to spoil anything. I loved this series and I'm kinda sad its over but I enjoyed the ride and the great ending this book brought it.

Now, topside in a town called Salvation, she’s a brat in need of training in the eyes of the townsfolk. She doesn't fit in with the other girls: Deuce only knows how to fight.

To make matters worse, her Hunter partner, Fade, keeps Deuce at a distance. Her feelings for Fade haven’t changed, but he seems not to want her around anymore. Confused and lonely, she starts looking for a way out.

Deuce signs up to serve in the summer patrols—those who make sure the planters can work the fields without danger. It should be routine, but things have been changing on the surface, just as they did below ground. The Freaks have grown smarter. They’re watching. Waiting. Planning. The monsters don’t intend to let Salvation survive, and it may take a girl like Deuce to turn back the tide.

I guess it was sorta about Fae but not really but I guess that depends on what you believe about the Fae, I did like that it was original to me but also it was mysterious and a little captivating. I like that the story was told from each one of the friends point of view at differnt times in the journey, but on the flip side to that I'm not sure I really connected or cared to deeply for any of the characters. It was a very interesting tale and the multiple points of view gave me a pretty deep insight into each individual but as interested as I was in their story I was not as interested in their personalities.
For a long time I couldn't understand her easy ability to just take a life and move on like she had just stepped on a spider, but the more I think about it the more I realized that it was just a part of how she was raised, how she had survived for so long, and because of her DNA and the wsy she was brought into this world. I must say that the storyline of Emma's evil father and the terrible way things are run was much more interesting than the whole zombie apocalypse I even forgot the infected were a threat for a long time while they delt with the bigger issues of the world.
Now I need to talk about Will, I just don't know why I like him so much, there is so much about him that annoys me and makes me mad but there is so much more that I love, I am very upset at Tara Brown forbreaking my heart twice by killing him, yes twice who does that, how rude to bring him back to his family only to be ripped away again, but also I understand it needed to be done for some things must be built from the ashes of loss and regret.
and I may have loved Will but I love Emma and Jake together even more, and the glimpse in the future eas a wonderful way to end the series proving that life can get better with hard work and love.
I'm sad to see this series over but I am insanely satisfied with the way things went down the good and the bad.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14919273202642815085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1570194678667897079.post-7172636256855301002015-03-09T02:02:00.002-07:002015-03-09T02:02:35.534-07:00Book Review- Cold Fury (Cold Fury 1)

I was no aware this was a series when I started it and Im not sure if I will continue on or not. Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14919273202642815085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1570194678667897079.post-11816768370916286632015-02-22T17:33:00.000-08:002015-02-22T17:33:07.439-08:00Read to Review- By the Sword (The Kingdom Chronicles 3)

First of all thank you to the amazing author for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This series has officially become one of my favorites, it was already on there but with the addition of this truly fabulous conclusion it has forever cemented itself a spot on the list. Thank fully this book picks up right where the last one left off, the open ending of book 2 almost killed me ans I was happy and satisfied with how it continued and I know many others will be pleased too. We also get thrown right back into the action, there is so much more going on than a wedding.
The loss of Tristan is still fresh but it was handled wonderfully and in the end I think he helps them to find what they need and become who they are. The writing is just as amazing as the previous books, maybe better, the fight scenes are action packed and exciting and the beautiful love scenes between perfect lovers get better and better and I love how the two are combined into a perfectly balanced story of love, loss, friendship, and the fight of the century. The multiple POV's are also a great writing strategy, in this series there is so much to know about all the characters good and bad and getting such a rounded view helped me root harder for our heroes and connect to their struggle.
I have always enjoyed Alannah but watching her be tested on this journey and show so much strength and courage made me love her so much more. I also love the rest of our hero party but I wont say to much as not to give anything away but I will say this is the best and most loveable group of people I have ever had the pleasure to journey with in print form.
I am very sad to see this series come to an end but I'm so glad I took this journey with the Fae of the five kingdoms and I will make time for a reread of this series it is worth it and I recommend everyone reads this series it has it all.
Synopsis:

Don't miss the next chapter of Watersong, a bold new series that will enchant you, entrance you, and hold you captive under its spell

Now that Gemma Fisher has inherited Penn, Lexi, and Thea's curse - and all the strange new powers that come along with it - she has no choice but to run away with them. Devastated that she has to leave everyone she loves behind, she's still determined not to give in to the unspeakable hungers that plague her.
Unfortunately, they're growing stronger every day, and she's not sure how much longer she can resist.

Harper won't give up on finding her sister Gemma, vowing to get her back no matter what the cost. The search draws her closer to too-gorgeous-for-his-own-good Daniel, and tests her fiercely guarded independence like never before. She's always been the strong one who everyone else depends on.... Can she let herself depend on Daniel?

As Gemma and Harper plunge deeper into a magical world they barely understand, it becomes painfully clear that Gemma's old life may be lost forever. But can she still hold on to her humanity?

My Review:
Book one took me a while to get into and I had the same problem with this one, but once again I found thst I got sucked in and actually ended up enjoying the last half, I was also lost a bit since I read book one a while ago so that may be a factor. My favorite thing about this series is the mythology about the sirens, how they came to be and how they survive, I don't know much about sirens but I do know these ones are scarier and a lot different then I imagined.
Harper remains my favorite character and I love the relationship between her and Daniel there is an intense chemistry that bounces off the page and I can't wait to watch them fall in love (we all know it has to happen lol) nd I look forward to much more shirtless Daniel in the near future and I really look forward to answers about his "gift".
Gemma is not someone I am a huge fan of but my love for Harper compels me to put up with her and I've noticed I dislike her less and less as time goes on. Gemma and Alex are kinda cute together but they are no Harper and Daniel and I'm not sure I much care if they end up together.
Although I feel wishy washy about these books, for the most part I enjoy them and I will continue on so I can see how it all ends.

Seventeen-year-old Mia has no memory of the accident; she can only recall what happened afterwards, watching her own damaged body being taken from the wreck. Little by little she struggles to put together the pieces- to figure out what she has lost, what she has left, and the very difficult choice she must make. Heartwrenchingly beautiful, this will change the way you look at life, love, and family. '

Now a major motion picture starring Chloe Grace Moretz, Mia's story will stay with you for a long, long time.
I don't think I can do this review with out spoilers so beware some small spoilers may be contained in this review.
I'm not much of a crier when it comes to books, movies, TV and sometimes songs can make me tear up but it's rare that a book can bring tears to my eyes and this was one of those books. I broke down and had to take an emotional break when her Gramps told her it was okay to go:
"It's okay." he tells me. "If you want to go. Everyone wants you to stay. I want you to stay more than I've ever wanted anything in my life."..."its okay if you have to leave us. It's okay if you have to leave us. It's okay if you want to stop fighting."
With out realizing it he gave her the moat beautiful gift ans as someone who knows what it's like to have a strong silent Grandpa so full of love and understanding my heart broke and melted all at once with the broken beauty of it all.
I loved getting the flashbacks into Mia's life before the crash, but each story about the love of her family made it so much more upsetting when you realize they are already gone. I cannot believe she had to lose Teddy along with her parents, the bright young boy missed out on so much and I can understand why his death seemed to hit Mia a little harder than her parents, but even after getting so much insight into Mia the enormous impact that every death will have on her can never be truly understood.
I regret my initial thoughts on this book it was much better than I expected and I'm curious if the movie is as good as the book. Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14919273202642815085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1570194678667897079.post-71150268079252923312015-02-21T19:56:00.000-08:002015-02-21T19:56:10.921-08:00Book Review- The Queen's Choice (Heirs of Chrior #1)

But her journey is doomed to be more harrowing than she ever could have imagined.
I wanted to love this book, I bought it solelyonly because of the author, well and the cover caught my eye, I loved Kluver's other books but this one was not quite as good and I had a hard time getting into it, now don't get me wrong I didn't hate this book it just was not as good as I had hoped.
I liked the characters in this book and I really liked how they interacted and how most of them were not all that they seemed, it made for some very shocking events and some interesting twists and turns that saved the whole experience for me. A lot happened in the beginning and I was very interested but when Anya must recuperate from an unfortunate stroje of luck (or so we think) I got a little bored, some of it did play out later on but when I think about it there was a lot of stuff I didn't need and it took away from the overall journey and adventure.
Despite my feelings on this book I think the series has promise and I woukd like to continue on, lots took place towards the end of the book and I have many unanswered questions. I adore Cayla Kluver and I have faith it can only go up from here. Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14919273202642815085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1570194678667897079.post-69234822407177142042015-02-16T21:35:00.002-08:002015-02-16T21:35:32.289-08:00I'm back!!
In the not-too-distant future, genetic engineering has turned every newborn into a ticking time bomb: Males die at age twenty-five, and females die at age twenty. While scientists seek a miracle antidote, young girls are routinely kidnapped and sold as polygamous brides to bear more children. When sixteen-year-old Rhine is taken, she enters a world of wealth and privilege that both entices and terrifies her. She has everything she ever wanted - except freedom.

Soon it becomes clear that not everyone at her new husband's home is how they appear. With the help of Gabriel, a servant Rhine is growing dangerously attracted to, Rhine attempts to escape... before her time runs out.

My Review
Well I'm not sure what I was waiting for cause this book was amazing and I was missing out by not having read this book sooner, now my only problem is the fact that I don't have the other books and I need them really bad now.
"It doesn't matter how much his mother loves him; love is not enough to keep
any of us alive."
I was so taken aback by the story line, the threat of death is always close for these characters because of the low life expectancy this world has and it makes every one scramble in this weird situation in which girls are kidnapped and sold off to rich families as sister wives with the goal of carrying on the crazy world. Rhine is stolen from her home and twin bother Rowan and sent to marry Linden and she also gains two sister wives Jenna and Ciecly and I was very drawn into this book by the strange relationships of all the characters, I really liked the characters but I am not sure that I can say I loved any of them but I fell in love with the way this very strange and unique situation created very strong and very strange tense relationships that involved both trust and fear and almost always at the same time. It was also strange to me the thin line I walked between hating Linden and feeling sorry for him, Sometimes I felt like he was just as much a prisoner of his evil father, Vaughn, as the girls but I think he is aware of the evil in the house and plays the naive card for his own benefit.
I loved the descriptive way it was written it made a terrible tragedy and full of loss but it is wrapped in the beauty of the mansion and the clothes I could understand Rhine getting lost in the world, there were moments even I needed reminding of how she got there, and all the creepy things that could be going on down below.
I really can't wait to continue the series and I hope that the next books have a bit more of the science that is involved in a cure and the reason they die so young and I really hope that Rhine and Gabriel can be a part of finding a cure but only time will tell.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14919273202642815085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1570194678667897079.post-50341429236931705252014-09-14T17:57:00.000-07:002014-09-14T17:57:16.737-07:00Read to Review- 97 (Rise of the Battle Bred #1)

Jane Burrows is the girl next door, well actually, five doors down from the new kid. She's happy with her life: she's got One True Friend, a set of wheels, and the best job ever, newspaper delivery girl! She's not even super annoyed when William McLeod starts following her around like a puppy dog. He's hot, after all. Except, what's with the spooky overprotective thing? What's with his stern opinions on ancient warfare? What's with his evasive answers to the most simple questions? Just...what's with William? If Jane's honest with herself, she wants it to be her! William's living on borrowed time. He's got three lives left before his number is up, and his dad is forcing the issue. No fighting again. Never mind the Lochspawn are hot on their tails. Nevermind they might be incriminated in four grisly murders. Nevermind the girl of his dreams is monster bait. He's supposed to sit on his hands and watch while his world goes up in Warloch flames? Yeah, no.
My Review
*I was given a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*
The concept and lore surrounding this story was very cool and in my experience very fresh and new and I really enjoyed it, but I must confess I did have one complaint and that was the romance , I don't really care for insta-love I prefer to watch a relationship grow and although it could be argued this was not insta love I think it was close enough and I was also bothered by the up and down when Jane became angry with William quickly, oh and also the blushing...okay so that was a few things but they were small for me because they did have sweet moments together and the story being told around them is so captivating and cool that I can see past it to enjoy the background and the growth.
I loved how the story was told from a few different points of view, we got Jane's, William's and even the evil Warlochs, it gave the story a well rounded quality that I really enjoyed. I think this is a wonderful start to what I think will be a great series, and with a cliff hanger like that I am anxious for book two and very very excited to see where we go from here. I am most curious about the Marine and how the Warlochs will use him to their advantage, and I also am interested in what the unveiling of secrets will do the relationships in this book. This was an action packed and exciting read, thank you to the author for the joy of reading it.
